French Conscience Jug

A traditional, French provincial ‘Conscience Jug’, originally made in the 1800’s and used for transporting wine, water and oil.

The handles on each side were used for threading rope and strapping to donkeys.

As many didn’t survive their daily, precarious journeys, it’s rare to find one and especially one in such lovely condition.

French, 19th Century

Material: Hand-Crafted Earthenware, Glazed

Dimensions: H: 40cm / W: 32cm (incl handles) / D: 27cm
